Liberty of London:
Liberty of London is an iconic heritage brand recognisable around the world for its textile patterns and prints. Its founder Arthur Liberty opened the Liberty Emporium, a small half-shop, on Regent Street in London in 1875 trading imported exotic goods and textiles from the Far East. Arthur Liberty made his name importing beautiful and high quality fabrics from Japan, Persia, India and China. His great ambition and enthusiasm for Eastern arts and crafts, keen eye for styles and trends and passion to educate paved the way for him to become one of the leaders of his field.
Moving in advantageous circles from the beginning of his career Arthur, an ambitious and sociable gentleman made the acquaintance of some of the most exciting artists, architects and designers of his time whom he collaborated with on projects to create new fabric prints and patterns.
Liberty’s identity is closely tied to the classic Tana Lawn and Saville Poplin cotton collections with prints inspired by nature, architecture and heritage. Liberty continues to constantly reinterpret these classics by working closely with contemporary artists and designers from a wide range of disciplines to create new fabric prints. Established now for over 140 years Liberty’s incredible archive holds more than 40,000 original prints which continues to grow as these prints are re-used and reinterpreted to become contemporary classics.
